Billy Ortlip

Yacht Broker

Growing up in southern New Jersey Billy received a “dock education” from a very early age. Roaming the docks around Cape May in the summer he terrrorized the population of blue crab and snapper blues before returning to school in September smelling of bunker.  He also (somewhat reluctantly) learned about the seasonal maintenance requirements of his family’s two wooden Pacemakers.

By the mid 1980’s crabs and bluefish were replaced by marlin and tuna. As his father’s passion for canyon fishing grew the boats got bigger. Finally able to travel offshore (without carrying those red cans) summers were spent offshore or thinking about how to be more proficient offshore. During this time he acquired just enough knowledge to start being asked to help out on other boats.

This turned into a 30 year career traveling to and fishing some of the best spots in the world. Working with some of the best owners, captains and builders in the business Billy not only gained fishing experience but also valuable knowledge of the boating “business”.

After many seasons spent traveling the Atlantic and Pacific, Billy settled in Palm Beach County with his wife April and two sons, Zeke and Wyatt. Although he still travels to fish tournaments, he prefers to spend time fishing with his two boys.

Although most of Billy’s career has been focused on the fishing end of the industry, he also has experience in the operation and maintainence of yachts, sport yachts and center consoles. Whether buying or selling you can rely on his knowledge and experience to help make your next transaction smooth and enjoyable.
